Philippians 2:3-4 KJV
3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Lord, I pray that I can get to a place where this holds true to me. I can’t count the number of relationships and friendships that I have ruined because of jealousy. Jealousy is a result of vanity and often I get to a point where I don’t want to be around people who I feel are doing better than me. This mindset results from a lack of focus. If I focus on myself then it is impossible to be truly humble and jealousy always has room to creep in. However, if I focus on others, there is a peace that comes with it. For this reason, I always feel most comfortable when I am serving others.
How relaxing is it to put aside my own concerns and focus on others. When I do this, placing my doubts, fears, and concerns to the side (letting God deal with them), I can place my attention on others; and in my line of work that is very important, essential. So from this point on, Lord I ask that you send your Holy Spirit to help me in this endeavor. To no longer focus on my short comings, flaws, failures, and insecurities and to put forth an honest effort to serve the Kingdom.
